Maddox Garden Center & Landscaping focuses on spring clean-ups
For 40 years, Maddox Garden Center & Landscaping has been devoted to Northern Kentucky by offering products and services that meet homeowners’ needs. This time of year, spring clean-up is top-of-mind for many community members.
“We have a lot of landscape clean-ups going on, and that entails trimming, mulching and edging, which is considered as general maintenance. That’s what drives our work this time of year,” says Rodney Crice, landscape architect at Maddox Garden Center & Landscaping.
He says the company will do anything from a tree installation to a complete landscaping design on someone’s property.
“It’s important to listen, answer questions and deliver what clients are asking for,” says Crice.
Sara Donaldson, landscape designer at Maddox Garden Center & Landscaping, says the spring and fall are the best times to complete new installations or landscape renovations because it’s the best time for plants to adapt. They don’t have to tolerate hot summer temperatures and there is generally a good amount of rain.
Another top consideration for homeowners is maintenance. Maddox takes the approach that it’s better to maintain landscaping periodically, rather than to let it get overgrown.
People are spending more time in outdoor living spaces, while others enjoy the natural beauty of flowers, plants and trees. Some homeowners are looking for wildlife-friendly yards and gardens, such as plants that have berries for birds.
“A lot of people are trying to improve their outdoor space, provide some privacy and screening, and then, sometimes, they just want something pretty to look at, whether that’s out a window or around a patio,” Crice says.
Maddox Garden Center & Landscaping specializes in residential, commercial and industrial landscaping design. The company is also well known by locals for its garden center. Donaldson says the family-owned and operated aspect sets Maddox apart as a go-to in Northern Kentucky.
“That sense of family sets us apart. Everything we do makes you feel that way, whether you’re a customer or an employee. It literally feels like a family, and that’s huge to me,” she says.
Today, the company has grown to one of the largest garden and landscaping companies in Northern Kentucky. The new building was completed in 2013 and it houses multiple offices, registers, a full inventory of tools, equipment, chemicals, fertilizer and more. Maddox also carries plants, trees and perennials.
“Originally, the same property was the family poultry farm, which I think is awesome. The first garden center that was here was a small shack, surrounded by plants. There was one register and a tiny office for the minimal landscaping they did at the time,” says Donaldson.
Maddox specializes in spring and fall clean-ups, mulching, design, maintenance, new installations, landscaping renovations, privacy screens, tree installations and yard restoration as well as outdoor living areas.
“When we can get a job finished, the customer’s happy, and it looks good, we’ve accomplished what we set out to do. That’s what I get the biggest satisfaction from,” says Crice.
