The Northern Kentucky-based organization assists people with intellectual and developmental disabilities

The Point/Arc, an organization that gives opportunities to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) to “reach their highest potential educationally, residentially, socially and vocationally” is celebrating 50 years of service.

On Aug. 5 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., people can show up from Washington to Pike Street in Covington at the Block Party for games, raffle prizes, food and fun. KISS 107 radio personality Jon Jon will broadcast the party live. Local D.J. Brody Flynn is set to provide music and entertainment. Visitors will also have the opportunity to tour the Point/Arc facility.

Gold Star Chili, brats, burgers, and ice cream provided by Point Perk Coffeeshop will be available for visitors to enjoy.

Judi Gerding, President and Founder of the Point/Arc, started her personal journey to help others with I/DD when her son was diagnosed with Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome. In 1982, the Point/Arc opened its first social enterprise, the Point Restaurant, to provide vocational training to people with I/DD. Throughout the years, the organization has grown and now serves over 1,400 people every year through its programs and services—including Point Perk Coffee Shop, the Point Commercial Laundry, the Point Apparel and the Point Commerical Cleaning Company.
