Enjoy a timeless experience at Goodfellas Pizzeria in Covington
There’s nothing like a glass of bourbon after a long day. And there’s nothing like a delicious slice of pizza. But what do you get when you combine them? Goodfellas Pizzeria.
“We are a New York-style pizzeria founded in 2006 in Lexington,” says Kristen Ramsey, marketing manager at Goodfellas Pizzeria. “We have since opened 10 stores in four states—Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and Tennessee.”
When the brand opened its doors in Covington, its third location, it brought forward a plan to open a craft cocktail and bourbon-centric speakeasy concept within some of the restaurants as well. Named Wiseguy Lounge, seven of the restaurants have one.
While the bourbon concept is a unique one and helps Goodfellas stand out, it’s the focus on pizza that really sets it apart. “Pizza is what we do, and we pride ourselves on staying true to our New York roots,” adds Ramsey. “We believe that everyone should experience the culture of an independent business focused on family and community.”
Founders Alex Coats and Eric Boggs are Lexington natives with familial roots in New York City and were inspired to start the restaurant by the demand for late night food.
“They saw an opportunity in their hometown to have a light-night slice joint, inspired by NYC pizzerias, focused on quick service and nightlife enjoyment,” says Ramsey. “What started as a passing thought turned into a dream for the two when the first location opened on Mill Street.”
Goodfellas prides itself on its quick-service slices out of the pizza case. The menu is comprised of a variety of hand-tossed specialty pies, breads, sides and desserts, which are all inspired by traditional Italian cuisine.
When it comes to the Wiseguy Lounge, the speakeasy concept focuses on craft cocktails and an extensive bourbon collection that exceeds more than 800 different selections, including specialty barrel picks. “Inspired by the Prohibition Era, Wiseguy Lounge takes you back in time to the 1920s but with no password required,” says Ramsey. “We take pride in our cocktail curation, changing our menu every season with specialty creations from our associates.”
According to Ramsey, Wiseguy Lounge, with its seven locations, has been ranked among the top bourbon bars in America for several years in a row.
Ramsey adds the brand is looking to open a new location soon to add to its list of already existing locations.
