The Baker Hunt Art and Cultural Center wraps up its summer season and prepares for fall
The Baker Hunt Art and Cultural Center in Covington is getting ready to wrap up its summer season and prepare for the fall season, which begins Sept. 26 and ends Nov. 19. Although the summer season ends Aug. 13, visitors can still enjoy special workshops and a community art show before the season is done.
In partnership with Dressman Benzinger LaVelle (DBL) Law, the community art exhibition showings will be held July 29 from 3:30-4 p.m. and 4:30-5 p.m. and Aug. 12 from 10:45-11:15 a.m. and 11:45-12:15 a.m. The exhibition is displayed on the first and fourth floors at DBL and showcases about 50 pieces of artwork by Baker Hunt instructors, artists and friends.
Each showing includes a guided tour of the facility and the artworks and a brief history of both organizations. Registration for the showings is required but tickets are free.
The classes offered by Baker Hunt include stained glass, ceramics and mosaics, colored pencil drawing, yoga, cooking and more traditional studio art classes like drawing and painting.
Some of the workshops and classes offered in late July and early August include a macaron baking class, improv comedy for kids aged 11 to 13, different Bob’s Burgers themed cooking classes for both kids aged 11 to 13 and ages 16 and up and a honeybee painting workshop completed with a trip to Baker Hunt’s new beehive.
For the fall season, different workshops and classes will be offered and the center will hold its annual Twilight event on Sept. 17. The annual Twilight event is a fundraiser for Baker Hunt and is a usually a four-course meal cooked by the center’s chefs.
“This year it will be a battle-of-the-chefs kind of thing where there’ll be different stations where you can go around and taste different foods and different parts of the meal,” says Cora Arney, learner experience director. “There’s also going to be some student artwork hanging in our ballroom and then we usually have some sort of live music playing at the same time and a silent auction and art demos going on as well.”
Baker Hunt recently celebrated its 100th anniversary on June 15, so information on the history of the center will be incorporated into the fundraiser.
New cooking classes for the fall include a tween baking bootcamp for kids aged 11 to 13 and movie-themed date nights similar to what Baker Hunt has done in the past.
