Founded in 2015, Wooden Cask combines history, hospitality and beers

Combining traditional European styles with a modern taproom experience, Wooden Cask Brewing Company has quickly become a fixture in Northern Kentucky’s craft beer scene. Founded in 2015, the brewery operates two locations in Newport, including its original site on York Street and a second taproom at Newport on the Levee. 

Wooden Cask focuses on brewing English, Irish and Scottish-style beers, emphasizing traditional recipes rather than trendy flavors. The lineup includes a mix of year-round offerings and small-batch experimental releases. At both locations, visitors can also order food from nearby restaurants that partner with the brewery. 

Not only offering brews with storied pasts, The York Street brewery occupies a historic building as well. The site was once home to the Flamingo Club, an illicit gambling parlor tied to organized crime in the 1930s. Today, the 4,000-square-foot space houses Wooden Cask’s brewing operations and a taproom featuring 18 rotating beers. The company has also added wines produced through its own winery and a growing bourbon collection. 

In addition to its taproom offering a pub-like, community based setting. In 2024, Wooden Cask introduced a new upstairs venue at the York Street site. The addition was designed to host larger groups, community events and private functions, expanding the brewery’s role as a gathering place in Newport. Conversely, the company’s second location at Newport on the Levee caters to families and visitors to the riverfront development.
