If you’re staying in this year, check out these NKY places for the best take out
Year after year, New Year’s Eve shows up at the end of a long holiday season, and you might not be feeling festive enough to dress up and head out into the cold. If you’re planning on a cozy night in this year, these NKY spots have you covered for dinner, but they might put you to sleep before midnight.
Casual Chinese
Don’t let the name fool you, Casual Chinese in Newport is anything but. While the atmosphere is casual—the interior has a few Subway-style tables and a fountain Coke machine—the food stands up to any less-casual Chinese spot. Grab the moo shu pork (large size only), served with thin pan-fried shells and hoisin sauce, and have leftovers for days. Cheese wontons and/or sesame cold noodles make the perfect appetizer. Big portions and deliciously hot food make Casual Chinese a go-to spot for takeout.
Casual Chinese, 88 Carothers Road, Newport. casualchinese.com.
Riverside Korean
Riverside Korean in Covington is one of the best places to get authentic Korean food in NKY. Dining in is wonderful—there is floor seating available for dining—but if you’re already comfy on the couch, grab some kimbap, which is sort of like a sushi roll, for an appetizer. For your main course, dolsot bibimbap, a rice bowl in a stone pot topped with a fried egg; bulgogi, Korean marinated beef; or jab chae, sweet potato noodles, are all great options for your dinner in.
Riverside Korean, 512 Madison Ave., Covington. riversidekoreanrestaurant.com.
Four Mile Pig
Four Mile Pig in Alexandria is the ideal takeout option for those craving BBQ. The small batch BBQ restaurant has a variety of dishes, between sandwiches (hickory smoked pulled pork, smoked pulled chicken, brisket cheese melt or a double-double cheeseburger); smoked chicken wings, mac and cheese, cole slaw and Caribbean baked beans. You can also order a “Mac it Your Own Bowl,” which is mac and cheese with your choice of pulled pork, brisket or chicken topped with BBQ sauce, onion rings and toast.
Four Mile Pig, 7962 Alexandria Pike, Alexandria. fourmilepig.com.
Acapulco Mexican Restaurant
If you’re in the mood for chips and salsa, you can snag some Mexican takeout form Acapulco Mexican Restaurant in Florence. Acapulco has all of your favorites—nachos, cheese dip, guacamole, arroz con pollo, chimichangas and burritos. If you’re looking for something new to try, order the Molcajete Acapulco, with steak, chicken, chorizo, shrimp, onions, nopales (cactus) and cheese. You can also order the quesa-birria, a quesadilla with a flour tortilla with birria, onions and cilantro, for a new treat.
