Covington leaders celebrate new economic developments in Latonia and South Covington
While the City of Covington is seeing a surge of economic developments close to the river, the city is also working to transform the Latonia and South Covington neighborhoods into growing hubs for industry, healthcare and logistics.
City officials recently have recently announced more than $44 million in combined private investment tied to three companies–MarfoFMA, Thermo Fisher Scientific and GoGoMeds. Together, these projects are expected to bring more than 400 new jobs to the area.
“Covington’s momentum isn’t limited to our downtown and riverfront,” says Covington Mayor Ron Washington. “These private investments in Latonia and South Covington show that our strategy to bring high-quality jobs and opportunity to neighborhoods south of 12th Street is working. We’re building a stronger, more resilient local economy for our entire city.”
One of the largest developments comes from MarfoFMA, an international food manufacturer that has selected South Covington for its first U.S. production facility. The company plans to invest over $37 million to redevelop a former distribution site into a “modern food manufacturing operation,” expanding its reach in the North American market.
Meanwhile, Thermo Fisher Scientific is strengthening Covington’s presence in the life sciences sector. The company is investing $7.8 million into a new 65,000-square-foot clinical research facility in Latonia, a project expected to create more than 250 high-skilled jobs in biomedical science.
In addition to this growth, online pharmacy company GoGoMeds is expanding its operations in the city. The company’s continued investment will enhance its technology-driven healthcare services while creating approximately 100 new jobs by the end of 2026.
City leaders say these developments reflect a broader strategy to bring economic opportunity beyond Covington’s downtown core. By focusing on neighborhoods south of 12th Street, officials aim to build a more balanced and resilient local economy.
