Local retirement communities combine luxury with accessibility

The later years of life are supposed to be the best. To go above and beyond the living needs of seniors, retirement communities are creating luxurious, yet easily accessible, living experiences.

Colonial Heights & Gardens, 6900 Hopeful Road in Florence, has been servicing the area for more than 37 years.

“We have an excellent reputation and we value our place in the Northern Kentucky community in which we serve,” says Pam Huesman, marketing director for Colonial Heights & Gardens.

Colonial Heights & Gardens operates as a nonprofit retirement community and is part of the Retirement Housing Foundation (RHF) family.

“We offer spacious, condo-sized independent living apartments, personal care apartments and memory care apartments—all on the same campus, but in separate buildings,” explains Huesman. “Each lifestyle includes delicious meals served in the dining rooms, cleaning services, cable television, paid utilities, numerous activities and many building and campus amenities on the 17 acres that our community occupies.”

Huesman says that when families are searching for a retirement community for their loved ones, it’s important that you find a place that offers the lifestyle they deserve for the value you expect.

“Our prices are all-inclusive, so you really do get a tremendous value,” says Huesman.

The apartments at Colonial Heights & Gardens include weekly housekeeping, two-to-three meals per day in the dining room and a plethora of activities including bingo, art classes, card clubs, social gatherings, musical concerts, day trips and plenty of celebrations.

“Our residents enjoy life and want to make the most of it,” adds Huesman. “We want them to enjoy our community and all of the amenities that we offer.”

Perhaps one of the most important missions at Colonial Heights & Gardens is creating a sense of “home.”

“Our staff goes above and beyond on a consistent basis to help our residents become settled as soon as possible so they can begin to reap the benefits of the New Kentucky Home,” she says.

Not far from Colonial Heights & Gardens in Florence is Rosedale Green, located at 4250 Glenn Avenue in Covington.

For 59 years Rosedale Green has been operating as a nonprofit, licensed Skilled Nursing Facility offering short-term rehabilitation stays and long-term residential care.

“Rosedale Green provides high-quality, on-going nursing care for high-risk older adults and medically complex individuals,” explains Community Relations Director Julie Price.

At Rosedale Green, the facility is focused on supporting older adults facing mobility or other health care challenges that require medical oversight and compassionate care.

“We offer clinical support as well as providing peace of mind and an engaging lifestyle for individuals in a person-centered environment,” adds Price.

When it comes to those who are moving into Rosedale Green, Price says that there are eight distinct households available, with each one furnished to create a sense of home. The households have an open family room, kitchen, formal dining room and a den.

“This atmosphere engenders a feeling of life at home among friends and family,” she says. “Homemakers and caregiver teams are assigned to each household, so they come to know the individual preferences of each resident in a very personal way.”
